Research Opportunities

SURG (Small Undergraduate Research Grant)
Open to all undergraduates in any discipline. Grants are available of up to $500 for single entries and up to $1,000 for group entries to cover such things as the costs of supplies and materials, time on laboratory equipment, or travel to another city for archives. Available around October of every year.

The U.S. Department of State's Summer Student Internship Program
Internships available by the US Department of State. Applicants must be US Citizens and Juniors or graduating Seniors who intend to go to Graduate school (Also Graduate students are encouraged to apply.)

"Bridging the Gap" WVU School of Law workshop
Workshop available in the Fall at West Virginia School of Law for minority and non-traditional students interested in attending law school. Registration is free.

Robert D. Lynch Student Leadership Development Institute
Scholarship for rising Sophomores and Juniors. The objective is to develop global citizens and encourage a passion for lifelong learning and civic engagement.

Vira Heinz Scholarship Program for Women
Leadership conference held by the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education. Students who participate go through workshops that help to develop leadership skills and also provides a great networking opportunity.

The Language Flagship Fellowship
Fellowship available for 2 years of graduate studies in an intensive language study at a Flagship institution. Flagship Fellowships are available for the study of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Persian at designated Flagship Programs.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships
Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations. Undergraduate students can receive up to $20,000 for an academic year's study abroad and graduate students up to $30,000 for language study and international research.

Paid Internship in the Image of the Black in Western Art Archive
The W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research provides paid internships to graduate and advanced undergraduates to perform important and substantial work in the history of American art.
